Unique combination
MYP + VWO

What is
MYP?

MYP is the type of education at International schools. The abbreviation stands for Middle Years Programme and is supervised by the International Baccalaureate Organization.

Originally it was made in the philosophy that if so many students around the world experience the same education with respect for other cultures, open-mindedness and a positive attitude towards learning it would be highly beneficial for world peace. Well, though we are not there yet, it has proved to be a very successful type of education, much appreciated by universities.

MYP focuses on
life skills

Learning to communicate is one such life skill because you can have all the knowledge in the world but it doesn’t mean much if you can’t communicate. That is why we offer four languages: Dutch and English language and literature. And also Spanish and German language acquisition. For Spanish and German we start at the beginning but we are very flexible, we also welcome students at higher levels.

Learning to cope with the world around you is another life skill. The MYP curriculum is taught in an interdisciplinary way such as Sciences or Individuals and Societies instead of teaching history, geography and economics separately. In this way we can focus on global issues like pollution, global warming or, indeed, a worldwide pandemic. Learning to stay healthy is yet another life skill.

What is
VWO?

After two years of MYP and a fine diploma, you enter the two final years of the Dutch VWO at Supreme College. Less interdisciplinary but equally challenging, this diploma provides access to each university in the world (though some, of course, ask for extra qualifications).

The programme consists of eight VWO subjects at the same academic level, the highest level in Dutch secondary education. Three languages, Dutch, English and a language of your choice and mathematics are compulsory. And then you choose between a sciences stream or a humanities stream.

The best of
both worlds

So, after four years, when you leave Supreme College, you do so not with one but with two fantastic diplomas, giving you a real head start at the next step in your career. This is also what we mean with ‘the best of both worlds’.

School
fees

The difference with International schools is not only the way we teach students to really be part of society in the Netherlands. Another major difference with international schools where parents pay as much as 10,000 euros a year or sometimes even more, is that, in terms of school fees we want Supreme College to be possible for every student. So the school fee is limited to 495 euros annually. Of course the first question that comes to mind: how is that possible? The answer to that is plain and simple: we can offer this because we are a state-funded school.

Supreme College Nederland is a joint educational initiative of Jac. P. Thijsse College and Bonhoeffercollege in Castricum. Jac. P. Thijsse College boasts a long tradition of expertise in bilingual education and participates in an extensive international school network. Bonhoeffercollege possesses a unique specialism in science with its Technasium. These strengths complement each other at Supreme College Nederland. A modern and up-to-date alternative for European and International schools, both within and outside the Kennemerland region.
